On Sunday, February 15, the Boys & Girls Club of Bulloch County’s Teen Center was devastated by fire. Damage from the flames, heat, smoke and water impacted the entire building and its contents. Early indications point to the fire originating in the mechanical room where it quickly spread through other areas of the building. While we are saddened by this tragic event, we are fortunate that no children, staff or volunteers were injured.
Since it was built 11 years ago, the Teen Center has provided a positive and inviting atmosphere for local middle and high schoolers. It is currently the only afterschool and summer program that specifically targets teenage youth. At highest risk for delinquent behavior, these are the youth that need a safe, structured and supervised program the most. The Boys & Girls Club Teen Center provided a variety of academic enrichment, character development and recreational opportunities. These students will have to be displaced until other arrangements can be made.
We are very appreciative of the support from our local community; we will work hard to continue providing services through this difficult time. Should you have any questions, please feel free to contact us at (912) 764-9696. We will continue to update the public through our website and Facebook page BGC Bulloch as updates become available.
In every community, boys and girls are left to find their own recreation and companionship in the streets. An increasing number of children are at home with no adult care or supervision. Young people need to know that someone cares about them. The Boys & Girls Club of Bulloch County offers that and much more for local children. Our organization currently serves over 400 members on a daily basis. Thank you for visiting our website to learn more about our programming and how you can help!
