About Us
The Boys & Girls Club is a part of a nationwide affiliation of local, autonomous organizations and Boys & Girls Clubs of America working to help youth of all backgrounds develop the qualities needed to become responsible citizens and leaders. Each local BGC Organization is required to follow requirements for membership established by the BGCA to remain a chartered member. These requirements ensure the local organization meets operational and governance standards. Staffing matters and programming decisions are the responsibility of the local BGC organization.
The BGC of Bulloch County is governed by a local Board of Directors whose primary role is to serve as fiduciaries overseeing the organizations sustainability by ensuring the development of and compliance with ethical and legal management and financial policies, as well as ensuring the BGC has adequate resources to advance its mission. The Board of Directors develops a Strategic Plan every three to five years that is designed to establish the scope and direction of the organizations services and operations. The Chief Executive Office is responsible for using the Strategic Plan for developing programs that fall within the scope of services and managing human resources to deliver the programs.
History of the Club
The Boys & Girls Club of Bulloch County was the outcome of a vision from a small group of community leaders. In 1998, this group set out to establish a youth-oriented program in Bulloch County to address a gap in available resources. A community needs assessment was conducted and the results determined that there was a need for a major youth center and/or program targeting undeserved and disadvantaged children. On August 18, 2001, The Boys & Girls Club of Bulloch County opened its doors to the first time in this community. When the club opened its doors, the response for the need for the services was so great the Club could only accommodate 235 children at the time and placed over 500 children on a waiting list. The community's need for after school care and a recreation center were evident from the Clubs inception. To fill this need, our Board of Directors continue to work diligently to identify opportunities for sustainable growth and expansion.
